This project, located in south central BC, assessed the social and economic impacts of the proposed Hat Creek Coal Mine and a 2,000 MW thermal generating station for BC Hydro and Power Authority. Responsibilities included projecting employment and population scenarios to the year 2000; developing all housing and community service requirements to accommodate a doubling of the population in the surrounding communities; and assessing potential changes to the regional social environment, including forecasting social problems and benefits. We also developed methods to mitigate problems and enhance the expected benefits. (1978)
