Public and Stakeholder Consultation
Project Name | Canmore: Affordable Housing Symposium |
---|---|
Client | Town of Canmore |
Project Type | Municipal Government |
Timeframe | 1997 |
The Town of Canmore retained Praxis to plan and deliver an affordable housing symposium. The goal of the process was to develop realistic solutions to the provision of affordable housing in the community. The symposium had six themes: development of suites, staff accommodation, zoning and land use bylaw revisions, co-operatives and land trusts, growth management strategies and transient accommodation.
In addition to local experts, planners and other specialists involved in the delivery of affordable housing provided their insights regarding solutions to Canmore’s affordable housing strategy. Experts drew from the Resort Municipality of Whistler (BC) as well as the Towns of Banff and Cochrane (AB). Praxis, in association with the local steering committee, developed a package of recommendations addressing all six theme areas. After making a few modifications, the Canmore Council approved these recommendations for implementation.
