AltaLink contracted Praxis to perform preliminary reconnaissance work in communities affected by proposed transmission line developments. The principle aim of the community mapping process was to increase the effectiveness of AltaLink’s public consultation program. Praxis conducted desktop research and complied initial profiles detailing the demographic, economic and social characteristics of each community.

Field teams were then dispatched to each community to determine the most effective and appropriate approaches to communicating and consulting; identify opportunities for distributing information; identify key opinion shapers and community leaders; and establish potential opportunities for community participation. Comprehensive reports were prepared for each community and client debriefing sessions were conducted.
