Public and Stakeholder Consultation
Project Name | Alberta Parks Planning Framework: Consultation Program |
---|---|
Client | Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation |
Project Type | Provincial Government |
Timeframe | 2008 |
In response to growing pressures on Alberta’s landscape, including its provincial parks, the Ministry of Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation drafted the Park Planning Framework. In fall 2008, the Ministry contracted Praxis to develop and manage an intensive consultation process with key stakeholders to gather their views on the draft framework. This process consisted of four core components.
First, Praxis organized and facilitated four technical sessions bringing together representatives from ENGOs, recreation users, Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation staff, and a cross section of public servants from other provincial and federal ministries. Second, Praxis managed a one-day Ministers’ Forum that brought together over eighty multi-stakeholders who provided their input on the Framework through breakout sessions. Third, Praxis gathered further input from stakeholders through written submissions. Lastly, based on the stakeholder input gathered through stages one, two and three, Praxis prepared a summary report of the consultation findings, which was submitted to the Ministry.
