Project Name | Japan-Canada Oil Sands Pilot In-Situ Plant: Public and Stakeholder Engagement |
---|---|
Client | Japan-Canada Oilsands Limited |
Project Type | Private Sector |
Timeframe | 1997 to 1998 |
In conjunction with Dr. Gerry Archibald, Praxis worked with Japan-Canada Oilsands Limited (JACOS) and the local communities of Anzac, Janvier and Conklin in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. As a pilot project, the JACOS plant was approved to produce up to 12,000 bbls per day. This approval preceded a decision regarding commercial production and the accompanying regulatory review.
The Praxis-Archibald team worked with the local communities, particularly the First Nations and Metis peoples, to develop local hiring and employment opportunities as well as contract opportunities for service, construction and operations during the project. The Team also developed consultation processes and information materials to facilitate a better understanding of the project among local community members.
