Public and Stakeholder Consultation
Project Name | Public Safety and Sour Gas in Alberta: Issues & Regulatory Framework Review |
---|---|
Client | Provincial Advisory Committee on Public Safety and Sour Gas |
Project Type | Provincial Government |
Timeframe | 2000 to 2003 |
Through public outreach and consultation, the Advisory Committee on Public Safety and Sour Gas examined public health and safety issues associated with sour gas and the regulatory framework that addresses these issues. Based on the review, the Committee provided Alberta Energy and Utilities Board with recommendations to make the regulatory framework more effective.
The Advisory Committee retained Praxis to design, facilitate and support all aspects of the public consultation and outreach process. This multi-phase process included regional discussion sessions in 12 provincial locations; meetings with First Nations and Métis communities and organizations; website development; on-line response forms; a quantitative random sample telephone survey in the regions of the province most affected by sour gas issues; and the development of a “Directions Document”. Phase two of the process focused on public meetings to review the “Directions Document” in ten provincial locations.
