Praxis conducted a two-stage national consultation process for Parks Canada, as part of the Four Mountain Parks Management Plan Review. This included the Banff, Kootenay, Yoho and Jasper national parks.

In stage one, Praxis organized and managed 14 open houses across Alberta and British Columbia. Praxis also designed supplemental information materials outlining the management plan and key issues, which were produced in both official languages. These materials included “in-stand” graphic displays as well as 500,000 bulletins that were distributed at park gates and information centers. To extend the reach of the public involvement process, advertisements were placed in all national newspapers with a 1-800 phone number, 1-800 fax line, and website url to allow for public queries and input. This was accompanied by a radio advertising campaign and mail out of 6,000 newsletters to participants. This phase of the consultation generated over 2,800 responses. Based on the analysis of these responses, Praxis not only wrote more than 30 background papers for the Parks Canada Management Group but also participated directly in the Group’s decision-making process.

In Stage Two, Parks Canada and Praxis prepared a newsletter, in both official languages, discussing each issue area and outlining Parks Canada’s proposed response. The newsletter was mailed to all process participants for feedback. Praxis then analyzed the responses and prepared background reports for review by the Parks Canada Management Group.
