Through Business Partners for Development, Praxis joined an international team designing a program to study, support and promote the creative involvement of businesses as partners alongside governments and civil society organizations. The objective of these partnerships was to support the creation of “social capital” in remote communities of developing countries. The project focused on major mining, oil and gas projects in these countries. Praxis played a major role in developing several of the modules including Internal Assessment, Consultation and Communications, and Management. This also required coordinating and proofing the modules for consistency and readability.
Phase I of the program required the design and production of six generic training modules and the development of a training program to guide the process of building partnerships between oil and mining businesses, governments, and civil society in developing countries. In Phase II, these modules were tailored to local circumstances that varied from projects in the planning stages, to active operations, and those undergoing decommissioning. Once adapted, these modules were used not only to train a wider range of business, government and civil society stakeholders associated with a myriad of projects but also to strengthen the capacity of existing local facilitators. The manuals were also produced in Spanish. An overview of the training modules can be found at the following links:
