As part of a City of Calgary project team, Praxis participated in developing a stakeholder engagement strategy for the imagineCALGARY visioning process. This strategy was the largest stakeholder engagement process undertaken by the City, at this time.

As part of the +30 Network of cities, this process aimed to generate a “community-owned” vision for the future of Calgary; develop a long-term vision and strategies to form the basis of City plans and processes; become a link to the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Urban Issues; provide an opportunity to collaborate with The City of Edmonton on shared urban issues and with other leading, global cities on urban sustainability; and identify Calgary as a leader on urban issues at the local, national and global levels.

This process was designed to encourage participants to “think outside the box” and aimed to involve individuals that are commonly not engaged. These included the “silent majority”, ethno-cultural groups, Aboriginal communities, seniors, persons with disabilities, individuals in marginalized communities, and youth.

As part of this two-year process, Praxis developed and maintained the imagineCALGARY website; created an intranet site for the project team and multi-sectoral working groups; organized a theatre company to work with Calgary’s youth and to organize imagineATTACKS’s and prepared a wide range of graphic documents. Praxis also supported the Mayor’s Panel on Sustainability and the multi-stakeholder Citizens Advisory Roundtable that oversaw the project.
