The assignment focused on the need to evaluate and respond to anticipated socio-political changes in Canada and the United States. The study addressed three areas related to the socio-economic environment in which the company must operate: the Company’s past and present operations; the present direction and future regulatory trends in North America and internationally; and the present direction and future trends of other resource companies and special interest groups throughout North America.

Final results included a series of recommendations for the development of socio-economic principles and practices in the Company, and a plan for implementing these recommendations. The study resulted in the creation of Gulf’s Corporate Local Affairs Policy.
