Business Partners for Development (BPD) is an organization sponsored by the World Bank and Care International. Through BPD, Praxis was a member of the international team that undertook a program designed to study, support and promote the creative involvement of businesses as partners alongside governments and civil society. The program supported the creation of social capital in remote communities of developing countries where major oil and gas and mining projects are or may occur.
Phase I of the program involved the development of a training program to guide to building of partnerships in developing countries between oil and mining businesses, governments and civil society. Phase I involved the design and production of six generic training modules. Phase II involved ’tailoring’ the examples and case-studies adopted in the generic modules to the local circumstances surrounding a number of existing or projects currently under construction. The modules were used to train a wider range of business, government and civil society stakeholders associated with a variety of projects, and to strengthen the capacity of existing local facilitators.
